The McGintys

Originally from Surrey, UK, Ray and Debbie McGinty fell in love with Tasmania when they visited in 2009 and were immediately captivated by the beauty of the island state. During their visit, they stumbled upon a property in Barrington that stole their hearts, and they placed a contract on it before leaving Tasmania.

It wasn't meant to be at the time, and unfortunately, the contract fell through, but Tassie had well and truly made an impression and in 2012, they decided to move to Tasmania permanently. Upon returning, they were shocked to discover that the same property was still on the market. Wasting no time, they made an offer and purchased the property that had captured their hearts years earlier.

Before the move, Ray and Debbie lived on a half-acre block in South East England. Debbie had worked in logistics for a wine company in the UK, while Ray had a background in project management and construction and had run a plumbing and heating business.

Despite their love for wine, establishing a vineyard was not something they set out to do. Still, the property's potential was apparent over time, and Devils Gate Vineyard was born.

Looking ahead, Ray and Debbie plan to open a cellar door to share the magnificent views of Lake Barrington and most importantly their wine that truly reflects the region.

The Property

"There's not one part of the property I don't like." - Ray

This statement truly captures the essence of the property, from its prime location on top of a ridge with amazing views of Lake Barrington to its multi-faceted block with plenty of nooks and crannies. Every pocket of the property offers something special, and the feel of the land changes as you move through it.

With the property surrounded by mountains and the Devils Gate Dam forming Lake Barrington, it's no wonder why visitors fall in love with the views.

From the house they built in 2018 to the shed for wine tastings, the property offers a perfect retreat. The dream of building a Cellar Door and Accommodation is one that Ray and Debbie are excited to make a reality. Despite its humble beginnings with tall grass, worn fencing, rocks, a pump shed, and old stockyards in ruins, Ray and Debbie's vision has transformed the 30-acre Barrington property into a picturesque vineyard estate that is sure to be admired for years to come.
